Bahkan fashion para atlit itu menghidupkan sensasi fantasmagoria.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Benjamin, anggota Frankfurt School, komunitas kritisi kebudayaan, bahkan memahami fashion sebagai energi politik \u201cavant garde\u201d: fashion merumuskan masa depan. Atau dalam arti sehari-hari, trendsetter. Fashion memang berarti \u201cyang berubah-ubah\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Kita memang mengenal fashion dalam arti itu. Tetapi juga fashion adalah penanda politik, pemakna sosial dan petunjuk zaman sekaligus. Tentu pada mulanya fungsi alamiah fashion adalah sepenuhnya sebagai pelindung tubuh dari cuaca. Komunitas masyarakat purba memerlukan itu. Perlahan, fashion tumbuh sebagai penanda identitas sosial. Ada marka ideologi dan ekonomi di situ. Petunjuk kebudayaan terbaca dari fashion: bila mengenakan jilbab misalnya, itu bisa petunjuk identitas, tapi juga bisa sebagai pembawa perubahan politik.<\/p>\n<p>Di dunia olahraga terutama, di ajang Olimpiade Paris yang lalu, fashion jadi trendsetter para atlit. Panggung olimpiade sekaligus jadi ajang \u201cfashion show\u201d para designer dunia. Kontingen Indonesia misalnya juga jadi pusat perhatian melalui disain fashion yang dirancang Didit Hediprasetyo, putra presiden terpilih Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n<p>Fashion juga tumbuh melalui kritik kebudayaan. Ulasan Vivien Westwood misalnya, pernah menjadi acuan filosofis untuk menilai ide dan konteks sepotong kain yang dilenggak-lenggokan di atas catwalk.<\/p>\n<p>Kini ada tuntutan lain dalam dunia fashion, yaitu etika lingkungan. Berapa ton polusi yang dihasilkan untuk menciptakan sensasi fantasmagoria fashion.
